Ricardo Ledo Ruled Partial Qualifier

Ricardo Ledo, the No. 6 ranked player in the class of 2012 by Rivals, committed to play for Providence College and head coach Ed Cooley.

The Jordan Brand Classic alum added a dynamic 6-6 shooting guard to pair with McDonald's All American point guard Kris Dunn.

In a span of a few months, things changed.

Dunn went down with an injury and freshman Ledo was ruled ineligibile to play in games this year with Providence but is allowed to practice. The ruling came down today and was first reported by the Providence Journal.

"Today the NCAA informed us that the eligibility waiver for Ricky Ledo has been partially approved and Ricky will be allowed to practice with the team but he can't compete in games," Providence head coach Ed Cooley said in a statement released by the school. "We are excited that Ricky has the opportunity [to] pursue his education and be part of the team. We believe that this gives us the chance to help him grow as an individual."

Ledo, who attended numerous high schools, may be looked at as a athlete that might look elsewhere after the NCAA's decision. The dynamic scoring guard could find a good situation for himself if he wanted too, but Providence seems to be the only situation he's focused on right now.

"I am happy to be a student at Providence College," Ledo said in a statement released by the school. "It has always been a dream of mine to represent PC and I am looking forward to my days as a student-athlete."

The news of his partial eligibility comes as no surprise but it could be a blessing in disguise. If Cooley is able to retain Ledo for a full year and get him ready for the 2013-14 season, Providence should be in good shape to make noise in the Big East in 2013.

Not only will they have Ledo, but the Friars will also welcome North Carolina State transfer Tyler Harris and hopefully retain 6-1 point guard Dunn. Not to mention, allowing Joshua Fortune, an excellent shooter, the opportunity to play through mistakes his freshman year.
